Founded in 1937, Kamla Raja Girls Govt. Post - Graduate College, Gwalior, is a pioneer and premier institution for women in higher education in this part of country. It was elevated to the post - graduate level in 1970 and autonomous status was conferred on it in 1995. Standing with majestic grace in the heart of the city, the college is housed in one of the palaces of the erstwhile Scindia dynasty. It has an impressive historic main building alternated by lush green lawns, tall trees and blocks of various faculties constructed lately. It is a unique college of old and new architecture as well as picturesque natural beauty spread over a vast campus of 53714.60 sq. m.

National Assessment & Accreditation council, Banglore (NAAC) has accredited this college as B level (equivalent to previous * * * * grade) among autonomous colleges in 2002. Proposal for upgrading the institution as Deemed University is under consideration of the UGC. During reaccreditation process by NAAC in 2010, college has accredited again by B grade.

The college provides a great diversity in programme options. The undergraduate and post graduate teaching offer in 26 and 23 subjects respectively in Arts, Science, Commerce and Home Science faculties -- a range which is possibly greatest in the entire Madhya Pradesh. The faculty is experienced and well qualified as  teachers out of 101 hold Ph. D. degree. Short term Course in Different Subject. Home Assignment, Surprise Test GD.

The College makes a continuous internal assessment of its students through written tests, seminars and symposia under the Autonomous Examination Scheme, followed by the final examination.

The College has a rich library with 1.10 lacks books in the Central and Departmental libraries. The central library has a group Reading Room well equipped with Research Journals, Magazines and Newspapers where students and research scholars may sit and read. The library is equipped with a photocopier so that students and scholars may get extracts of books and journals at a nominal payment. E library with 10 Computers in function in this 18000 e books and 20000 e-journal are excess by the student as well as faculty members through Infilibnet servicese.

The College has three well equipped hostels – Ganga, Kaveri and Narmada – accommodating 350 girls.

There are three units of NSS and two of NCC and the student has the choice of enrolling herself in either of the programmes.

The college facilitates students with provisions for Canteen, Cycle Stand, Library with Internet and Photocopier, public utilities including toilets, water huts equipped with aqua - guard and water coolers. The cultural programme organized on Prize distribution are a class of their own and are televised and transmitted by the Bhopal Door-darshan.

The college topped in receiving grants from the UGC during X and XII Five Year Plan in the entire Gwalior - Chambal Division. The UGC team of experts which visited our institution on March 2014 to review the working of autonomy was pleased to recommend the extension of our autonomous status till 2021.
